Reading is such an enjoyable pat time and is even more enjoyable when shared with others. In our class we love to read together and discuss what we have read.
My students can mostly be described as reluctant readers.
They often profess a distaste for books, but often it is because they have not found the right book. Many times they do not have access to books readily at home, they therefore do not have a means by which to discover what book is right for them.
My Project
At the beginning of every school year, students reading level and fluency are determined and a goal for improvement is set. Our hope is to get the student to not only reach that goal but to surpass it. We encourage reading by looking for the right book for each student. In order to do that we need books in a variety of genres and levels.
Reading helps to broaden a student's mind and exposes them to a world that they might not otherwise see or enjoy.
By giving them choices they hopefully find the style that fits them and encourages a lifetime passion for books.
