This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
With the increase in technology, some students do not enjoy independent reading as much. The students are far behind with their reading levels and it may be due to not having enough enjoyable activities to go along with their reading. Many students read because they have to but not because they want to. As a little girl, I was excited to read a book and share the details with my friends and family.
This year I want to incorporate more fun engaging activities with reading!
Every two weeks of reading a variety of books, students will have to choose their favorite book and create a poster on the book. The assignment is for them to use their creativity and imagination to pretend they are the author of the book and want to encourage others to read their book. The poster will be an in-class assignment for a couple of days, followed by a mini presentation and a book walk-through. This gives students the ability to read for enjoyment, be creative with their poster, and tackle a presentation where they are “selling” (encouraging) others to read their book, all while having fun making them less nervous about the assignment.
