Encouraging Literacy With A New Classroom Library!
My students need leveled reading books for guided reading, 6 reading centers to practice newly learned skills, 4 large pillows to sit upon, and 30 bins to store their personal books.
"The more you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go."--Dr. Seuss
To read more you need more! With the right resources, this could be the year that my struggling readers increase their fluency and comprehension, and discover a life long love of reading!
My students are your typical 3rd graders.
They are active, eager to learn, and filled with life. What sets them apart from other 3rd grade students is that they are also struggling readers. Our families are low-income families and many do not have the support they need at home to become better readers.
Our school is one of the oldest in the district. Our resources are outdated, broken, and are not interesting to this generation of students. Our classroom library consist of books that are ten plus years old with missing pages and broken spines. The books are also not on their reading level.
My students deserve to have a library rich in materials that they will love to read and that they will be proud to call their own!
My Project
My students will use these new books and centers everyday. They will be able to find books that they can comprehend and read fluently at their individual reading levels. They will be able to practice different reading skills, with partners and individually, at the different reading stations using the games and centers provided. They will also build their love of reading as they become stronger readers and realize that they can read when given the right resources to do so!
Your donation to my classroom will help my students become better readers.
By becoming better readers, you will not only build their reading fluency and comprehension but you will also be building their self esteem and confidence in all areas of their life. Help prepare my students for a brighter future today!
