My Students
It is not always easy to get each student to participate in classroom discussions. There are some learners who assume that as long as they are doing what they are supposed to, they should not be forced to participate. They just like others to do the participating. Such an issue needs to improve.
The students at my campus are mostly English Language Learners who are challenged to specialize in math, science and technology.
Teachers across grade levels constantly struggle getting students to take part in classroom discussions because they feel shy, or simply uncomfortable speaking in front of an audience. To improve this weakness, there is a need to focus on their strengths. All learners at my campus are eager to take risks, work cooperatively and collaboratively in order to become active learners. They go about their daily content area activities with great enthusiasm and perseverance; such qualities are vital in their academic and linguistic learning processes.
My Project
In order to improve students' engagement and participation in both math and science - or any other content area -, the Classroom Jeopardy system will be used as warm-ups at the beginning of the class, or as a unit review. The goal is to create a cooperative learning environment where English Language Learners, Special Education students, Gifted & Talented students, below / at / above-grade level students work as a team sharing their ideas, knowledge and improving their linguistic skills as they are actively engaged in academic discussions. It is in this type of learning environment where I- and all teachers at BMST Center- can promote active participation in the math, or science classroom.
This project is important because the Classroom Jeopardy system will encourage all learners to not just answer questions but ask them.
The main goal is to actively engage learners in classroom discussions that will help them be academically and linguistically successful. Please, help them succeed!
