My Students
I work in a large city in Pennsylvania at J. B. Elementary where the families have very limited resources. Students come to class without pencils, paper, folders, and many times without even breakfast. J. B. is a K-8 school with close to 900 students. The students I teach are excited to learn and happy to be a part of our school community. However, materials and supplies are barely non-existent and need to be purchased by the teachers. Students here love to read and need all the support they can get.
My Project
These book bins will allow each child in the room to have a personal leveled library to read and enjoy. The bins will be filled with books that a child wants to read on their own to support their individual independent reading. Allowing each and every child to pick a book of their choice is integral in boosting a child's love of learning and overall interest in reading. This is a vital resource to boost every child's confidence and level of self-esteem. These book organizers will serve as a child's personal library resource to use and enjoy throughout the school year.
