My Students

Did you ever hear of the saying "You are what you eat?" Did you ever stop to think of the foods and snacks that so many children are eating on a regular basis? I know that my students come to school with cupcakes and candy more often than fruit and granola bars. Help my students make better choices.

I teach general and special education students in a Title I New York City school.

Many of the students in my school are on a free/reduced lunch plan and sometimes my students do not eat lunch. They sometimes prefer to have their chips, juice, and cupcakes for lunch. I want to offer my students snack options that are not only delicious, but healthier for them as well.

My Project

I am requesting a variety of healthy snacks including Kellogg's Nutri-Grain bars, Kellogg's fruit snacks, 100 calorie pack Oreos and Chips Ahoy thin cookies, Lay's baked chips, Kebeller sandwich crackers, and bottles of water. I believe that providing my students with options of healthier snacks to choose from will foster smarter choices in what they eat on a regular basis.

By exposing my students to snacks that are tasty and nutritious, my students will see that healthier snacks are not as bad as they think.

I believe that if my students have the option of choosing which healthy snack they would like to have in the classroom, they will be able to transfer the option outside of the classroom. I want to fit childhood obesity and encourage healthier eating. Your support will help make this happen.
