Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students come from single-parent households and low-income families. 100% of our school receives free breakfast and lunch. Regardless of the stability many of my students lack in their home lives, they still remain positive about the world and find it full of wonder. Our school lacks a real cafeteria, auditorium, gym or science/computer lab. Due to Covid protocols, students do not leave their desk for a majority of the day. This makes our classroom the place our children spend a large majority of their time. Students are unable to share supplies this year and must all come prepared with their own which is just not possible for some. Due to this, it is very important that I try to make it as inviting and functional as possible in order to make it useful is a variety of ways.
My Project
My students thrive best when I am able to meet them where they are. Each child has their own unique learning style and can be empowered with the correct tools. Using a regular pencil, paper and book for the entire day can become mundane. I feel it is important to keep their socio-emotional needs met in my classroom where they can feel happy and supported. All subjects areas especially literacy and mathematics can be improved this way. Please allow me to stimulate them with lessons incorporating dry erase markers, scissors, glue and crayons to make learning an interactive adventure that will remember long after the school day has ended.
