This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In our Transitional Kindergarten classroom, I believe every child deserves to see themselves and others reflected in the books they read and the toys they play with. At this young age, children are just beginning to form ideas about who they are and how they relate to others. I want to ensure those ideas are rooted in empathy, acceptance, and pride in our differences.
That’s why I’m creating a classroom environment where diversity isn’t just celebrated, it’s woven into every part of our day.
Through this project, I hope to bring in books that feature every culture, as well as multicultural dolls and figures that honor the wide range of backgrounds represented in our community. I also want to incorporate teacher resources to help me build a more inclusive, anti-bias approach in my daily teaching.
