This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students I teach are under privileged first graders. They come to school eager to grow academically and socially. We are currently in a rented building since the district is growing. The district is 85% minority with 100% of students receive free meals.
Majority of the students are English Language Learners and they come to me with smiles, joy and enthusiasm for learning.
My goal is to maintain their desire for learning and cultivate the positive environment needed to flourish.
My Project
These materials will make a huge difference- imagine a class with no easel or bookshelf.
An easel, a kidney-shaped table with a task chair and a bookshelf are integral teaching tools for the classroom.
Being able to have students come to an easel to participate in an interactive lesson is an important component of teaching. By modeling instruction, students can collaborate and encourage each other to use the new strategy with less performance anxiety.
Without the proper materials, small group instruction can be difficult. It is hard to meet with a group of 5 students gathered around a few desks and be accessible to each child. It is also difficult for students to stay on task in this sort of situation. Having a kidney-shaped table with a task chair, for students to be within arms reach, allows students to focus and have greater success.
The bookshelf gives students access to books that will be organized by genre, theme, author etc.
More than half of students from low‑income households
