My students need art supplies to experiment, create and grow as artists! Budget cuts mean that students do not have access to traditional art classes, so please help them create a lunchtime club!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Located in Brooklyn, my school seeks to forge a lasting spirit of community between students, families, teachers and all stakeholders dedicated to the development of our young people. The population we serve faces severe socio-economic challenges - we are a Title 1 school located in a historically marginalized neighborhood - and many of our learners have specific needs; 27% of our students are English Language Learners (many having only recently arrived in the country) and 26% of our population are students with disabilities. Art education is a vital part of every student's well being, and it is especially powerful because it transcends language and disability. Unfortunately, visual art classes are the first things cut when school budgets tighten, and our students don't have access to visual arts classes.
Despite the challenges we face, the students and staff commit themselves fully to bettering their school and their environment, and all are engaged as partners to provide an exemplary education for our students.
We provide students with the academic and social tools they need to pursue goals by stimulating their interests in learning, discovery and self-expression.
My Project
My students and I recently created an Art Club as a peaceful space for students interested in the visual arts to create during their lunch period. These young artists have voluntarily joined a club to pursue their interests, but they are in need of quality paper and various creation mediums to design, practice and create. Students will meet once a week to complete various projects, participate in peer critiques and develop their crafts. Currently, we have computer paper and Crayola products that I buy for them out of pocket. I want them to have access to a variety of mediums including acrylic paint, gouache, nice paintbrushes, quality paper, personal sketchbooks, pastels and markers. I have several artists who have already volunteered to come in and teach workshops and lead various projects, and the students are eager to grow as artists! I am requesting these materials so that each of the 25 students in art club can have a personal supply of arts materials and be exposed to a diverse range of mediums. These supplies will sustain them through an entire year of creating!
Art is an empowering endeavor that allows for self expression, builds confidence and serves as a therapeutic experience for young people.
Please help create a peaceful and productive space for these young people by supplying them with sketchbooks, paints, brushes, markers, pastels and pencils!
