Empowering the Next Generation of Coders

Help me give my students the power to learn how to code using Sphero robots, a marble run and an electronics kit.

My Students

My students come from military families and have unique backgrounds. I teach on a military base which means all of my students have either one or both parents in the military. These students have traveled all over and often switch schools. Many of my fifth grade students are faced with a parent being deployed.

My students have amazing backgrounds, but they also carry a lot of stress.

It is extremely important to me to create a safe and stable environment within my classroom. I want my students to know that my class will always be a stable factor in their lives. My students start the school year at a variety of reading levels, and I would love to be able to provide challenging activities for learning.

My Project

These materials will be used to educate students on the importance of STEM. Students will learn the building blocks of coding to allow them to explore possible career opportunities in the future. Working with coding robots also allows students to learn the importance of working as a team. By having multiple Sphero robots in the classroom, students are able to have more opportunities to work work with them hands-on. These tools will also help improve critical thinking.

By giving my students access to STEM materials, I am exposing them to various career opportunities.

The 3D printing pen will help my class expand upon our STEM Design challenges that we currently have. The Snap Circuit kit will help teach students about electricity, which has historically been a difficult topic. The marble maze will help students with their critical thinking. Finally, the materials will be incorporated across various subject areas to help keep students engaged in learning throughout the day. These materials will help open the door to the STEM field.
