Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
All students are special and deserving of a good education!
The group of students that I am teaching this year is eager to learn.
They struggle every day trying to overcome basic needs. They live in one of the poorest neighborhoods of the city. They are funny, sweet and hopeful. These students are unfortunately at-risk to high crime, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, poor health, poor fitness and poor nutrition, patiently waiting for them outside of the school gates.
My students come from many countries, so they are also learning the English language and customs of this wonderful country.
My Project
Currently I have one desktop in my classroom. These iPads will be utilized during intervention and centers. They will allow the students to work on their individual needs and levels. The students will be able to access Imagine Learning which is a program provided by the district to newcomers. It will also benefit students that have been in the country over a year with programs like I-Ready for reading and mathematics.
Imagine the power of technology at the hands of struggling students.
In addition, this project will help students build self-confidence by increasing proficiency in the English language and consequently Reading and Language Arts, Mathematics and Science. Allowing students to be able to attack the social-economic barriers that are tied to academic failure.
