We are committed to creating a learning environment that supports all students in reaching their full potential, both academically and socially.
TouchMath is a multisensory approach to learning math that allows students to "touch" the numbers as they learn.
By associating each number with a physical touchpoint, this method helps make abstract concepts more concrete, fostering greater engagement and understanding for all students, especially those who struggle with traditional learning methods. My students need the computation set, magnetic 3d numbers and texture cards.
Texture Cards, on the other hand, will be used as tactile tools to further engage students with sensory needs. These cards provide a hands-on approach to learning and make learning fun and accessible, promoting inclusive education.
In our community, we are dedicated to dismantling barriers that prevent all students from achieving academic success. Racial justice and equity in education are core values that guide our teaching practices. Many of our students come from historically marginalized backgrounds, and providing them with tools like TouchMath and Texture Cards will give them the foundational skills they need to succeed in math—an area where they may traditionally have faced disproportionate challenges due to systemic inequalities.
Additionally, as part of this project, I plan to incorporate lessons that tie in themes of racial justice, such as using math word problems that highlight stories of underrepresented communities, figures in history who fought for justice, or topics related to equal access to education.
The Impact:
By receiving these tools, my students will be better equipped to develop strong math skills in an inclusive environment that respects and nurtures their individuality. The integration of racial justice themes will help students connect their learning to real-world issues, making their education feel relevant and empowering.
