This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls." - Pablo Picasso
Won't you help as I empower my students through art this spring?
I teach twenty-six energetic first graders in an urban Title One school.
My school goes from grades kindergarten through eigth grade. My students are truly a community of learners. They cheer each others' successes and help one another when needed.
My Project
We will be studying the life cycle of plants and butterflies this spring. Students will be writing their observations in their journals with their pencils. The pencil sharpener will keep them writing! They will draw the life cycle of both plants and butterflies using the markers. Their writing and drawings will be displayed on colorful card stock paper. Each student will also create their own butterfly with the butterfly craft kit. Students will decorate their butterflies with various shades of glitter. For Mother's Day, the children will create a collage frame as gift for their mother. The stapler and staples will be used to display student work.
This project will be empowering students through art!
Many times students who struggle with reading and writing can express themselves successfully through art. These materials will empower students to tap into their creative side. In my experience, children are highly motivated by the chance to color with markers and use glitter. Without your support, these materials will not be available to my students.
