My Students

I believe visual arts education is one of the most creative ways we have to find the gold that is buried just beneath the surface. Children have an enthusiasm for life, a spark of creativity, and vivid imaginations that need training". -Fellow South Carolinian & former U.S. Secretary of Education.

This is my very first year at this middle school, and I absolutely adore my sixth grade students.

We're back in the swing of things and it is hard to believe half of the year is almost gone. During this critical time, it is important for students to be reminded what is expected of them to be successful. Appropriate behavior is a must! Help me encourage my sixth graders to have school spirit and pride! Everyday my students arrive to school and are reminded of their purpose-to work hard because it pays off in the end. Our students are very diverse but are united by the desire to excel academically. As one of three Title I middle schools, my students face challenges that many would consider unimaginable. With this in mind, it is my desire to provide them with every opportunity possible to experience success in all areas.

My Project

Our school is located in an impoverished community, where there is extremely limited 'art'. Although students love art class in school, there are very few, if any murals in their neighborhoods. With this in mind, we strive to provide and accommodate students with everything they need and can imagine within our school. I believe, like Secretary Riley, that art education trains our country's youth to become productive, contributing and creative members of society.
