Empowering Students Through Art / Printmaking and Literacy
My students need Gelli printmaking plates with stencils, and printmaking cards with envelopes for Blueprints for the Arts to Empower them for Arts through Literacy.
I am an art teacher throughout the school teaching the Blueprints for Visual Arts for many different grades. My students are a diverse population of general education as well as students with disabilities. We start our day with "There are no mistakes in art!". Art gives them a chance to express.
My students love to experiment through the arts.
We want to explore printmaking, especially because it's in the Blueprints. My school is a title one population and I am teaching art with no art supplies available. I often use my imagination and recycle as much as possible. We use lots of crayons and markers. I want to empower my students through the arts with literacy, and expose them to printmaking and making cards. They can make beautiful creative prints on the covers and envelopes, and write poems inside. Using the arts to empower them to write gets them very engaged.
My Project
My children will use the Gelli prints with a brayer and paint, and apply stencils to it. They will make a card to give to whoever they want, and write an original poem inside of it. Applying the arts to literacy and writing really empowers my students creative energies.
My students will learn how to do printmaking, write a poem within their printed card and use stencils of their choice.
We will use some of these beautiful cards to send as thank you cards to the donors that help fund our project. To hit the Blueprints for Art and Literacy in visual arts, printmaking is a requirement, so we really hope we can get these materials. Thank you for all you do, as it really helps support our arts education programs.
