My Students

A typical day in my 12+1+1 self-contained classroom for students with special needs can be demanding and stimulating. I am on my feet all day. My days are spent constantly redirecting my student’s behaviors, teaching them to meet the academic needs of each individual student, and giving out rewards.

The students of my classroom are incredible wonderful, but more importantly, they are so interested and eager to learn. They have and want to learn, but just need some basic supplies to facilitate their learning outcomes.

The students at our school are struggling to receive the best education possible while dealing with the circumstances of living a poor and over crowded school district. Our school has a very high poverty rate. We are a Title 1 School and have close to 100% free lunch servings. Our school has nearly 1000 students from various and similar backgrounds with single parents, homelessness, or are in foster care.

My Project

The biggest challenge in helping to change the lives of my students is the lack there of money or resources to buy well needed classroom materials especially copy paper. Having a paper cutter, a laminator machine and laminating sheets to go along with the machine will greatly preserve each student portfolio work and career readiness pieces. As well as, their favorite projects, finial presentations and precious visual works of art. 'Empowering students through art' is essential for my visual learners. Donations to this project will also help them visualized and see a demonstration the importance of preservation and conservation of materials. The paper cutter will be use to give a student's paper a clean neat edge. This copy paper and will be used to posted projects in various subject around the classroom.

I teach 7th-8th grade students with special needs and abilities.

The materials will be used to create student centers that will be differentiated to target all of their needs. We will be able to categorize each of the centers so that handouts will be easy to find later. The materials will be used to "Empowering Students Through Art" these resources and will assist us in creating level learning in a warm and inviting environment.
