This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"To develop a complete mind: study the science of art; study the art of science. Learn how to see. Realize that everything connects to everything else." -Leonardo da Vinci
My students are English Language Learners from South Central Los Angeles.
They come from a low socioeconomic neighborhood and most are from single family homes. Although my students sometimes struggle with the language barrier, they are motivated learners who value their education and truly believe in our school motto, "Never, never give up."
My Project
My students have a desire to learn as much as they can about science. The rocks would allow them the opportunity to learn about the properties of rocks. The books would enhance their knowledge about the earth's layers, while the dough would provide them the hands on experience they need. They would use the drawing paper and paint to do an art project as they learn about volcanoes. They would then be able to extend that knowledge through the science games.
This project would change my students' lives because they would have an opportunity to learn about science as they use their knowledge to create these art activities.
