My Students

"Our task, regarding creativity, is to help children climb their own mountains, as high as possible. No one can do more." -Loris Malaguzzi The students in our class struggle with learning, but they are encouraged and expected to go beyond set goals. They are a creative group who enjoying learning.

The students are in a self-contained multiple handicapped classroom.

We have a wide range of abilities. They have the opportunity to work with both a paraprofessional and a special education teacher. They are an unique group of students who have a special zest for learning, caring for others, and expressing themselves through art, singing, and playing instruments.

My Project

My students need a hands-on learning experience with a field trip on the Good Time III River Cruise and materials to create a book that captures their learning. The experience of going on the Good Time III River Cruise will give the students an opportunity of a lifetime. We have been studying social studies, language arts, and math standards that are brought to life on the cruise. Hands -on learning is powerful for our students and will help students better understand the topics discussed. Everyone learns in a different way, and this experience will deepen their learning while exposing them to new interests. The disposable cameras and art materials will allow each student to create ab individualized book that highlight experiences and mastery of the academic standards. The books will be photocopied and used for instruction for students in upcoming years.

The experience of the project will have a direct impact on each child.

The trip will bring many topics to life and clarify learning. The process of taking pictures and creating the book will further their understanding and development of their creativity. The students will have their hardback books for a lifetime for reflecting the experience while maintaining the learning standards.
