Empowering Students Through Art: A Keyboard for Our Class
My students need a digital piano for their music classroom.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Mason's classroom raised $812
This project is fully funded
My Students
Help us get a new digital piano for our music classroom! In our small Title I school district, I teach music to over 300 prekindergarten through third graders. They are enthusiastic about learning music and I want to make sure that I have the materials to give them the best education possible.
In our small Title I school district, I teach music to over 300 prekindergarten through third graders.
They are enthusiastic about learning music and I want to make sure that I have the materials to give them the best education possible. We don't have a piano in our classroom, just a very basic keyboard that does not meet my students' needs.
My Project
In music class, we are empowering students through art. Each time we learn a new piece of music, we learn the background - the historical and cultural context as well as literary references. Here's an example: Soon, we will be studying Chinese New Year. The keyboard will be used to learn a simple Chinese song - then we will use Chinese characters to compose our own music. We will make lanterns and read books about the topic. After the Chinese New Year unit, we will study Peter and the Wolf, and will make similar cultural connections.
The digital piano I have selected also has a full 88 key range, a high quality sound, and a midi input so that we can connect with a computer and compose, arrange, and create rehearsal tracks.
With this digital piano, students will have the opportunity to play on a quality instrument that allows them greater control over creative expression, helping to create well rounded young musicians.
