Empowering Students: Self-Regulation Tools

My Students

Tanzania, Ethiopia, Vietnam, Honduras, Haiti, India. These are just some of the countries my very energetic and diverse group of students come from. There's no one way to describe my students, or the love I have for them. What I do want you to know is that their love for learning has no bounds. They enjoy reading, writing, math, technology, exploring, taking risks, and having fun. Though my students face many barriers, they’re always determined to work their hardest each day.

My Project

Days can be stressful but when we provide students with the tools to self-regulate, we're enabling them to reach their full potential. In order to address and promote self-regulation, my school has implemented a program called Zones of Regulation. Through this program, students learn how to manage stress in their daily lives and how to identify triggers that put them in the Red Zone.

Zones of Regulation has helped my students become productive learners who are able to regulate their behaviors and find the best strategies that can help them unwind.

My students are learning that self advocating also means informing me when they need a mental break. To provide them with an outlet, I have created a regulation station where students can self break and relax, calm down, and reflect. Some materials my students need are mindfulness books, sensory sand, stress balls, timers, bouncy seat bands, etc. These tools will benefit my students throughout the school day.
