"The number one benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do. It lets people be creative. It lets people be productive. It lets people learn things they didn't think they could learn before." - Ballmer
With technology, my students will be empowered.
My darlings are a melting pot of socio-economic and racial demographics.
Everyone is represented within our ranks! We are a Title I school and a fine arts magnet, attracting talent from every corner of our district. Regardless of their level of poverty or privilege, the kids mesh beautifully and work hard to create bright futures for themselves.
Many students do not have access to a computer on a regular basis. In our school of over 1700 students, we have only 1 computer lab to share. Classrooms have between 1 and 4 desktops available for students to share.
My Project
With the 8 Asus Chromebooks, the students will have access to a digital writing lab I will create within the classroom. In the writing lab, students will be working through engaging Web 2.0 writing and editing tutorials, creating and sharing blogs to foster real life writing connections, and will have the opportunity to become authors as part of NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month! I will also be able to guide them in proper research techniques and how to go beyond the Google search bar.
Without sufficient access to technology and someone to teach students how to properly utilize the tools, students are left at a significant disadvantage compared to those who have access everyday.
My students will be at the bleeding edge of Web 2.0 technology utilization and research skills with the addition of a digital writing lab consisting of 8 Asus Chromebooks to my classroom.
