Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students face barriers such as poverty, homelessness, language challenges, and limited exposure to advanced technology. Every day they come to the STEM classroom with new ideas or new problems that our 3D printers in the classroom can solve. It can be a birthday present, a new 3D model they made, an object they need or a trendy object they saw on TikTok they want to print out. Every filament provides my students with endless possibilities to express themselves. It allows them to see themselves as future innovators and engineers.
The 3D printers foster equity, creativity, and critical thinking in our STEM-based class.
If awarded, we will have different colors and consistent supply of 3D printing materials. My students can learn the fundamentals of 3D modeling, prototyping, and product development. My students have an uphill battle where 25% of my students are English Language Learners. When they look up models or work in CAD systems, they work hard to practice their technical vocabulary. The filaments are critical in allowing the students to freely print without limitations.
