Empowering Readers: Phonics Kits for Future Success

Help me give my students long lasting phonics kits that include durable plastic cases and 80 color coded grapheme magnets so they where can build, sound out, and write words!

My Project

My students are growing and learning about their unique intersectional identities. This includes different languages, cultures, countries, preferences, perspectives, and values. They do all share one common bond - they are all deaf or hard of hearing and part of the Deaf community. We empower our students as Deaf individuals to be lifelong learners and innovative thinkers with diverse linguistic, ethnic, and cultural identities who are fluent in both American Sign Language and English. In my role as the spoken language and literacy specialist, I work with my students to bridge between American Sign Language (ASL) and English. Part of our spoken language biliteracy curriculum is focused on phonics instruction and incorporating literature to help build connections for students through language and vocabulary.

These all-in-one phonics kits will provide each student with a durable, long-lasting kit for years to come.

Creating similar materials like these phonics mats with paper and laminating sheets each year has been time-consuming and expensive. Access to sturdy materials like these kits will allow me to spend more time on lesson and curriculum development for my students, and less on materials creation.

Students will use these kits daily to build, sound out and write words! Strong foundational skills in phonics will empower them to be stronger readers and successful leaders.
