Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Empowering Pages is an initiative aimed at curating books that feature African American characters, authors, and culturally relevant to the students. Our goal is to ensure that African American students have access to literature where they can see themselves represented, fostering a sense of identity, belonging, and inspiration.
Objectives:
1. Representation: Increase the availability of books featuring African American protagonists and themes in educational and community settings.
2. Engagement: Promote reading among African American students by providing them with stories that resonate with their experiences and backgrounds.
3. Empowerment: Encourage self-esteem and pride in African American heritage through literature that highlights diverse voices and stories.
Expected Outcomes
- Enhanced representation of African American students in school and community libraries.
- Increased reading engagement and enthusiasm among African American students.
- Positive impact on students' self-esteem and cultural pride.
- Strengthened community ties through shared reading experiences and discussions.
By providing African American students with access to literature that mirrors their own lives and dreams, "Empowering Pages" aims to cultivate a lifelong love of reading, a deeper understanding of their cultural heritage, and an empowered sense of self.
