Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a School Social Worker who will be splitting my time between two wonderful schools, with students ranging between Pre-K and 8th grade. In this role, I work to alleviate any social or emotional barriers to learning that may be experienced by our students. A large part of this task includes teaching students how to cope with big feelings and emotions.
As you can imagine, the learning style and supply needs of a 5-year-old student differ quite a bit from the needs of a 14-year-old student.
With this in mind, I am requesting support in obtaining learning materials and supplies for our younger learners. I have requested several illustrated children's books to read with students navigating topics such as recognizing body cues, gaining self-esteem, and coping with grief. I have also requested some fidget toys and a stuffed animal for students to utilize when actively experiencing overwhelming feelings at school. Lastly, I requested a storage shelf to organize materials that are easily accessible to students when needed.
