Empowering My Students Through Flexible Seating!

My students need 4 balance balls, 4 wobble stools and 2 beanbag chairs as options for flexible seating to increase student empowerment!

My Students

Just like you and me, students learn best through different teaching strategies. This is especially true in my Northern Virginia classroom where my students come from a variety of backgrounds including Asia and South America.

My students come to school every day excited and ready to learn!

They are readers, writers, scientists, mathematicians, problem solvers, critical thinkers, goal setters, compassionate friends, collaborators, and most importantly KIDS! My students are like every other 8 or 9 year old. They love Field Day, recess, Minecraft, Kate DiCamillo books, and want to feel empowered by making choices which positively impact their learning!

My Project

Student voice and choice are integral parts in the learning process. When my students enter our classroom, I want them to feel safe, respected, creative, and empowered! By creating an environment in which my students can choose where they sit on a daily basis, I truly believe they are taking ownership over their learning! By creating a student centered learning environment, I believe my students can unlock their creativity. Making a small choice as where to sit will empower my students to take ownership in their learning journey.

Beanbag chairs, wobble chairs, or balance balls..which is the best seating option for me to learn today?

That is the question I would love my students to make this coming school year! Research has shown that flexible seating helps increase student motivation and engagement. I would love to be able to provide my students with beanbag chairs, wobble chairs, and balance balls as daily flexible seating options. Wouldn't it be fabulous to be a part of making this a reality for my students?
