My Project
I absolutely love my 6th-grade students! They are curious, determined, and eager to tackle new challenges in math. Many of them are just beginning to explore more complex problem-solving, and one of the biggest hurdles they face is efficiently using a calculator to support their learning. They are problem-solvers at heart, and I want to equip them with the tools they need to succeed as they transition to higher-level math concepts.
The specific items I’m requesting—classroom calculators designed for middle school students—will make a huge difference in their learning.
Right now, many of my students struggle with multi-step calculations, ratios, and percentages, and they often lose confidence when their computations slow them down. With access to their own calculators, they will be able to focus on understanding mathematical concepts rather than getting stuck on lengthy arithmetic. These tools will allow them to verify their work, recognize patterns, and develop critical thinking skills as they apply math in real-world situations.
My goal for this project is to empower my students with the confidence and skills to use a calculator as a learning tool, not just a shortcut. I want them to understand when and why to use a calculator, rather than relying on it for basic math. By integrating calculators into our lessons, my students will build the foundational skills they need to analyze problems, make sense of data, and prepare for more advanced coursework in middle and high school.
What makes my students special is their resilience and enthusiasm for learning. Many of them are just beginning to see the beauty of math beyond simple computation, and I want to nurture that excitement. These resources will help them see themselves as capable mathematicians, ready to take on challenges with confidence and curiosity.
