This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am honored to guide an incredible group of middle school band students in Springfield, Massachusetts, where we serve a community largely comprised of economically disadvantaged families. Each of our students brings a unique rhythm to the ensemble, creating a symphony of talent and passion that resonates beyond our music room.

Our students, each mastering a different instrument, face the shared challenge of limited resources for maintenance and repair.

With the comprehensive instrument repair kit we're requesting, we aim to equip them with the tools they need to handle minor repairs themselves. This not only fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility, but also ensures their learning isn't disrupted by malfunctioning instruments.

Additionally, the assorted reeds we're requesting are crucial for our woodwind musicians. They allow students to experiment with different sounds and find the one that best fits their musical style, further enhancing their performance.

The primary goal for this project is to empower our young musicians by giving them the tools they need to take control of their musical journey. Despite their economic circumstances, our students find solace and joy in music. It is this resilience and dedication that makes our band unique, and with your support, we can help them keep the music playing.
