Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At our Middle School, we strive to provide our students with the skills they need for independence and success. Our self-contained life skills classroom, serving students in grades sixth through eighth, focuses on developing essential life skills that extend beyond academics. This year, we aim to implement a student-run coffee cart program that will serve as a practical learning experience for our students, while also fostering social interactions, responsibility, and teamwork.
The coffee cart will provide students with opportunities to learn valuable skills such as budgeting, basic math (calculating costs and change), food safety, and customer service.
Students will work together to prepare and serve coffee and snacks to teachers and staff, promoting a sense of community within our school. This hands-on experience will allow students to practice and refine their communication and social skills in a real-world setting, boosting their confidence as they engage with others. Students will use the money from the sales to develop their own sense of belonging with reinforcers, sensory items and their classroom parties to reduce cost from their families and students being without.
Additionally, this project aims to create a safe and structured environment where students can explore their interests, develop their work habits, and build a sense of accomplishment. With your generous support, we can purchase essential equipment including a coffee cart, coffee maker, supplies, and safety gear, ensuring our students have everything they need to succeed.
