My Students

"To teach is to learn twice" ~ Joseph Joubert Joubert's quote couldn't state it better. As a teacher, I find that every moment in my classroom is a moment for me to learn from my students. My students come from diverse background with rich knowledge. I learn twice in our classes daily.

I am a fifth year teacher at a Title I School in an inner city school serving a majority of low-income and immigrant children.

They say if one can make it through five years of teaching, one is in the education field for a long run. I sure hope so! I love my job and I love my students even more. They inspire me each day as we struggle to make the best learning in our limited classrooms and lack of resources. (As a school we don't have a computer lab or enough computers for the students to use.) I started my career as a high school history teacher, but opportunity placed me in an inclusion classroom working with middle schoolers. Many of my students are English language learners, many students with special needs -- all are brilliant and talented and the best! They embrace their diverse backgrounds and create a learning environment of open-mindedness and respect for their unique background and experience they each brings. They never cease to teach me.

My Project

With a new portable laptop, I can access various on-line learning tools instantly and effectively share in class to guide and support my students. I can provide interactive learning games and use language programs to develop their vocabulary. I will develop comprehensive learning concepts through the use of on-line educational videos and visuals. Students and I can explore on-line resources to complete research projects. I can share and project engaging lessons. The possibilities are endless! Further more I want to study and explore new teaching practice to engage my students in the classroom by learning and exploring new teaching practices from the Empowering Students with Technology text. My goal as a teacher is to never cease learning. Learning about technology, learning about my students' interests, learning to inspire my students' inquisitive minds, learning to learn with my students keep me excite each day in school.

As we progress in this technologically charged world we as teachers need to have the effective, empowering and necessary tools to prepare our students.

I hope to have a dependable and mobile laptop that could be carried from one classroom to another and could quickly set up to begin each lesson effectively and efficiently. I can create direct lesson plans. Students can use to share their learning and take pride in their knowledge when teaching their peers.
