My Project
Our Horizon class is made up of 8 incredible autistic students who each bring their own unique strengths and perspectives to the classroom. As a program designed to support students with autism, we focus on creating an environment where they can thrive, using approaches that cater to their individual learning needs. This project aims to enhance their educational experience by providing hands-on learning centers and sensory tools tailored specifically to their needs.
For our students, hands-on activities are a key to unlocking their full potential.
Many of our students thrive when they can engage with materials in a tactile, interactive way—whether it’s through building, manipulating objects, or using sensory tools to help them focus and regulate their emotions. By incorporating hands-on centers and sensory tools into our daily routines, we’ll be able to create learning opportunities that are both meaningful and engaging, fostering a deeper connection to the material and promoting skill development in areas like problem-solving, communication, and fine motor coordination.
Our goal for this project is to provide a rich, supportive environment where our students can build confidence, develop independence, and have fun while learning. We understand that each student has unique sensory needs, and these centers and tools will allow them to self-regulate, focus, and participate more fully in classroom activities.
What makes our students special is their resilience, creativity, and ability to thrive when provided with the right resources and support. By giving them the tools to engage in hands-on learning, we’re not only helping them succeed academically but also empowering them to explore and express themselves in ways that build lasting skills for the future. This project will make a meaningful difference in their lives by meeting their needs in a way that respects and celebrates their individuality.
