Empowering Learning on the Go: iPad Mini for Itinerant Teaching

My Project
As an Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, I don’t have a classroom filled with books, manipulatives, and educational tools to pull from. Instead, I travel daily between multiple schools, providing specialized support to students in grades K-12. Because I work in different settings, carrying physical materials for every student’s grade and learning level is nearly impossible. An iPad Mini would transform my ability to deliver individualized instruction by giving me instant access to a digital library of books, interactive learning apps, and assistive technology—all in one portable device. This would allow me to meet students exactly where they are and provide engaging, customized lessons no matter where I am.
This iPad Mini will provide my students with access to differentiated learning tools, despite my constantly changing environment.
Without a permanent classroom, I can’t store books or manipulatives, but with an iPad Mini, I can bring an entire library and toolkit wherever I go. Apps like Get Epic and Sora Reading will help struggling readers by providing access to books and text-to-speech support. For students who learn best through interactive lessons, BoomCards and ABCMouse will offer engaging practice without bulky materials. To support receptive communication, Ava.me will provide real-time text-to-speech captions, helping deaf and hard-of-hearing students follow spoken content in general education classrooms. The iPad Mini will also allow me to track student progress with digital portfolios, videos, and photos, making it easier to document growth across multiple schools.
