This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are incredible, curious, and creative learners with autism in a 5th and 6th grade special day class. They thrive when given structure, routine, and especially hands-on materials that support their unique ways of learning. Our classroom is a safe space where students build academic skills, social-emotional understanding, and independence — but we need more tools to support these goals effectively.

Many of my students are nonverbal or have limited verbal communication.

They benefit tremendously from visual supports, sensory materials, and manipulatives that allow them to engage meaningfully with the curriculum. We're also working hard on developing life skills and emotional regulation strategies, which require specialized resources to help them practice in ways that feel fun and supportive.

I’m requesting visual timers, communication devices and noise cancelling headphones. These resources will provide the sensory input my students need to stay regulated and focused, help them communicate more effectively, and allow them to engage in hands-on learning that feels relevant and achievable.

Your support will make a direct impact on their daily experience, helping each child feel seen, understood, and capable. With your help, we can create a classroom that meets them where they are and helps them soar.
