Empowering Inventors: Enhancing STEM Education With Makey Makey
Help me give my students Makey Makey's STEM Pack - Classroom Invention Literacy Kit, to empower them to unleash their creativity and problem-solving skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
First grade students at F. A. Elementary are curious, inquisitive and engaged learners with limited access to hands-on coding, maker, design thinking, and computer science learning experiences in their classrooms, which hinders their creative thinking, problem-solving skills, and overall interest in STEM subjects. To address this issue, we are asking for the STEM Pack - Classroom Invention Literacy Kit by Makey Makey.
Makey Makey is a fun and innovative invention kit that allows students to turn everyday objects into touchpads and connect them to a computer to be able to code, design, and reinforce computational thinking and computer science skills.
With Makey Makey, our students will create their own unique inventions and control computer programs with just a few simple touches. Our 1st grade students will simply connect the alligator clips to any conductive material, such as fruit, play-dough or even their own body, and then connect the other end of the clips to the Makey Makey board. Once connected, they will use the objects as touchpads to control their Chromebooks to play music, create art, or even play video games they created through design and maker thinking.
We as teachers will be able to use Makey Makey to teach important computer science and coding concepts. By using Makey Makey, students will learn about circuits, conductivity, and programming. Additionally, we will use Makey Makey to create robots and other interactive projects to introduce our students to the fundamentals of robotics.
