Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are bright, eager learners in a classroom where hands-on learning is key. They benefit from a supportive environment that blends academics with practical, real-world experiences. Many come from low-income households and don’t always have access to basic kitchen tools at home. Here, they learn to cook, clean, and work as a team—skills that will help them lead more independent, successful lives.
Cooking is more than just a fun activity—it’s a gateway to independence.
This project will equip my classroom with essential kitchen tools including ceramic-coated knives, cutting boards, spatulas, tongs, and utensils. These items are durable, safe, and color-coded to teach sanitation and organization.
We're also requesting clear plastic sign holders to label organized cabinets. Clear labeling empowers students with executive functioning challenges to find and return items independently—building confidence and routine.
With these supplies, my students will practice safe food handling, knife skills, meal prep, and cleanup procedures. These tools will be used daily and shared among small groups to foster collaboration and responsibility.
