As a high school math teacher I teach nearly 200 students who require reliable access to essential learning tools. One such tool is the TI-84 graphing calculator, a standard device used in high school mathematics and beyond. Unfortunately, not all students have the financial means to purchase one, which can create inequities in learning experiences and outcomes.
This project aims to secure TI-84 calculators along with a charging station to ensure all students, regardless of socioeconomic background, have equal access to this crucial resource.
By integrating these calculators into daily instruction, students will develop proficiency in graphing, data analysis, and problem-solving, skills that are fundamental for success in STEM fields and higher education.
Project Goals:
Provide all students with equitable access to TI-84 calculators during instructional time.
Enhance students’ understanding of mathematical concepts through hands-on application.
Prepare students for standardized testing and post-secondary education by familiarizing them with the TI-84, a widely used calculator in college courses and exams.
Promote financial equity by alleviating the burden of purchasing expensive graphing calculators.
Impact: This project will have a lasting impact not only on my current students but also on future classes. Access to TI-84 calculators will provide students with the confidence and skills necessary to excel in mathematics and related fields. By removing financial barriers, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to reach their full academic potential.
