This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am lucky to work with an incredible group of students in our autism program, each of whom brings their unique strengths, perspectives, and personalities to the classroom. My students are curious, resilient, and full of potential, and they inspire me daily with their determination to overcome challenges and their joy in learning and growing.

The resources I’m requesting— iPads, protective cases, and communication buttons—will make a transformative difference in my students’ learning.

These tools will provide them with access to assistive technology that supports their communication skills, allowing them to express their needs, share their ideas, and connect with others in ways that best suit their individual abilities. The iPads will enable students to use communication apps, participate in interactive lessons, and engage with educational content tailored to their learning levels. The communication buttons will provide accessible ways for students to communicate quickly and efficiently in the classroom setting.

The goal of this project is to increase my students’ independence, enhance their ability to communicate with peers and teachers, and give them the tools they need to actively engage in the curriculum. By fostering a supportive environment where they feel empowered to express themselves, I hope to build their confidence and help them thrive academically and socially.

What makes my students truly special is their diversity and the unique ways they learn and interact with the world. This project will celebrate their individuality and ensure they have the resources they need to succeed. Together, we can create a classroom where every student’s voice is heard and valued.
