Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I absolutely love the energy, curiosity, and creativity my kindergarten dual immersion students bring to class every day. They are eager learners who are building literacy skills in both English and Spanish, which makes them truly remarkable. Their enthusiasm for language learning and the pride they take in becoming bilingual is inspiring.
The resources I am requesting—literacy manipulatives such as letter tiles, word-building blocks, and sentence construction kits—will make a significant impact on their learning.
These hands-on tools will allow my students to explore and experiment with language in an interactive way. By engaging with manipulatives, they will develop stronger letter recognition, phonics skills, and sentence formation, all while having fun. This is especially crucial in a dual immersion setting, as they are learning to read and write in two languages.
My goal for this project is to create literacy centers that foster independent learning and support my students’ bilingual development. These manipulatives will help them connect sounds to letters, form words, and construct sentences in both English and Spanish, which is key to becoming proficient readers in both languages.
What makes my students special is their commitment to becoming biliterate. They are not just learning how to read and write—they are doing it in two languages, a skill that will set them up for future success. These materials will give them the tactile, engaging experiences they need to thrive in this bilingual environment.
