Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are native Spanish speakers from diverse Latin American backgrounds. Many are bilingual or in the process of becoming biliterate. They are enthusiastic learners who light up when they see stories that reflect their cultures, languages, and experiences.

They are in a specialized Spanish language arts class designed to develop their academic Spanish, especially reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary.

While they speak Spanish at home, many have had limited exposure to rich, authentic Spanish literature in school.

This project will fund a library of high-interest Spanish books at different reading levels, including:

-Novels by Latin American and U.S. Latinx authors

-Graphic novels and short story collections

-Nonfiction texts that spark curiosity and build background knowledge

These books will help students:

-Build confidence in reading.

-Strengthen comprehension and vocabulary.

-Explore identity through culturally relevant texts.

-Fall in love with reading in their native language.

Our class doesn’t have a dedicated Spanish book library, and access to books that reflect their linguistic and cultural identities is limited. Your support will put high-quality books into their hands that affirm who they are and push them to grow.

With your help, my students will not only become stronger readers but also feel seen, valued, and inspired. These books will be a bridge to academic success and cultural pride.
