Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

By completing the CTEL 3 course, which focuses on Culture and Inclusion, I will gain the skills needed to create a more inclusive, supportive, and effective learning environment for English learners (ELs). This training will help me better understand students’ diverse cultural backgrounds, language needs, and social-emotional experiences, allowing me to plan lessons that are both academically rigorous and culturally responsive.

Students will benefit directly through lessons that incorporate their heritage, languages, and perspectives.

For example, I can design language arts activities that compare folktales from different cultures, helping students improve literacy skills while feeling seen and valued. I will also use visuals, sentence frames, and real-life objects (realia) to make vocabulary and academic content more accessible to all learners.

The CTEL 3 course emphasizes classroom strategies that support all students, especially ELs. These include differentiated instruction, collaborative learning, and assessments that allow students to show understanding in multiple ways. As a result, students will gain confidence, reduce language anxiety, and feel more motivated to participate.

In the long term, students benefit from being part of a learning environment where their culture and identity are recognized and respected. This leads to higher engagement, improved academic outcomes, and stronger connections between students and teachers.

Completing the CTEL 3 course will enable me to serve as a more effective advocate and educator for English learners, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to succeed and thrive.
