My Students
We are celebrating a new year, post COVID-19 and the return to face to face, mask-less relationships and instruction and we are so very excited to be together again! My students are in 4th, 5th and 7th grade and either have been struggling all of their academic careers to break the reading code, develop their number sense and become the confident, successful readers and mathematicians they were born to be.
My students inspire me each day, to never give up and approach their learning challenges, with dignity and persistence.
They are learning to become their greatest advocates. They have a variety of learning challenges, from being on the autism spectrum to being a spanish speaking learning disabled student who has extra struggles. This will be our first year together and we will spend the first 6 weeks developing trusting relationships. Our learning community will support empowering them to take academic risks, make errors to learn from and give themselves permission to practice above and beyond the hours that their peers typically do. I am eager to spend this school year with my new group of students and help to give them the tools they deserve to become awesome!
My Project
All of our students have the desire to be strong readers and manipulators of numbers, as they strive to become active and engaged members of our society. Our children are challenged socially, emotionally, academically, and psychologically. We will be able to use these real world pictures and math materials to motivate and encourage our children to take greater academic risks and enjoy being involved students. The language builder kits will allow our students to connect with real life pictures while they are learning to read the word labels as they increase their vocabulary banks. The math flashcards will allow our students to visually see the numbers, use manipulatives to compute the equation and then to translate the opposite computation correctly. The additional whiteboard markers and erasers will allow our students to show their work and build upon their number writing skills.
By donating to our project, you will empower our students to look beyond their disabilities and view themselves as capable and confident learners.
These materials will encourage our students to take greater risks by giving them more hands on tools to help them increase their motivation to pick up a book and enjoy reading for pleasure. Our students will also become stronger mathematicians as they learn the relationship between written numbers and how they can be manipulated to add, subtract, multiply and divide. This in turn, will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
Students will be able to simply focus on the academic materials at hand, and not on their areas of challenge. Plus in this world, filled with words and numbers everywhere, any interaction with real life pictures and hands on number practice opportunities will increase their confidence as well as their desire to learn and trust themselves as empowered learners.
