Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students are ready to bring science to life, but we need your help. As a Title 1 school, many of our students have limited access to essential resources for hands-on learning. While textbooks and online interactive labs introduce concepts, there's no substitute for the thrill and understanding gained through real-world experiments.

Imagine students studying microscopic life, analyzing local water quality, and observing the natural world up close.

To empower our students to truly experience science-not just as an abstract subject but as active scientists exploring and discovering, we're aiming to purchase essential tools like microscopes, binoculars, water testing kits, and goggles. These experiences aren't just science, they're the foundation for creating critical thinkers, problem solvers and tomorrow's STEM leaders.

The binoculars will allow students to have greater access to safely observing wildlife while outside, for example at recess or when on a nature walk, taking advantage of our school being surrounded by a protected park that has a stream running through it. (We have seen deer, foxes, birds, & a variety of insects with our natural eyesight.) As a 2025 NEA Foundation Global Learning Fellow, I want to build a bridge for my students from our curriculum to larger societal impacts on a local & global level. One of the main projects we will complete with these materials is comparing and contrasting the quality of "drinking" water vs. "tap" water using samples from our school, home and public facilities. We have some materials, but we lack the complete resources for a fully immersive, experiential learning experience. Your support will help equip our classroom for success, inspiring a love of science and encouraging our 21st-century learners to think big. Please consider joining us in making science memorable for these young minds!
