Empower Exceptional Learners with Flexible Seating!

Help me give my students flexible seating! Every child learns differently—and that truth is especially evident in my ESE classroom. To help them thrive, our classroom environment must help meet their needs.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When I was in school we were expected to sit in our seats and STAY in our sits. If we moved around too much it was seen as a sign of disrespect and being unproductive. Years later, science has proven that idea to be wrong. When we fidget, we distract the bored part of our brains - allowing for us to give better attention to the task at hand. Fidgeting also increases memory and creativity. So why do so many classrooms today still practice the old school methods of sitting quietly in one place all day?

My classroom certainly doesn't - children are encouraged to move!

Flexible seating will take my classroom environment to the next level.

The seating options I want to add to my class will provide my students a choice in where they sit, and how they sit. It will provide an outlet for those who need to fidget in order to increase focus, productivity, and relieve stress. Allowing students to embrace their nature will improve confidence and empower them to be self-driven in their education. There was a quote I found online that best sums this up; the quote is by an unknown teacher: “There is no better way to show your support for a student-centered classroom, than creating a classroom from a child’s point of view.”

Please help me provide these tools to my amazing group of students. These items will be used for years to come and make an impact on the beginning stages of their academic careers. Flexible seating is more than just a place to sit, it truly transforms attitudes and makes for a much more natural learning environment. Also, I'd like a portable white board so I can travel to these seating areas.
