Empire to INSPIRE: Creating a Sound Production Studio
My students need an audio production platform and drum set to create, record and produce music and "beats" with their band instruments, keyboards and voices.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Cooper's classroom raised $768
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Band students make beats. Chorus students spin poetry through song. All are intrigued by the components that popular musicians use to create chart-topping hits made at music empires. A sound production studio will inspire our students to create their own path into the music business industry.
Study of the arts and humanities is closely correlated with high earnings.
History, music, drawing, painting and economics will give our students an edge just as surely as math and science will.” – Tough Choices or Tough Times.
Our school is home of a stellar science/zoology magnet program. It is recognized as a national merit award winner by the Magnet Schools of America. Fifty percent of the band students are in the science/zoo magnet program. Additionally, these phenomenal band students also take advanced mathematics classes such as algebra and geometry. It is no surprise that last school year, these students overwhelmingly passed the district and state science and civics end of the year exams.
Our school is located in the southern part of Florida serving over 600 students Approximately seventy-five percent receive free or reduced lunch.
My Project
Students will receive guided instruction from the music director and an industry professional on recording and saving sounds using the software Audio Box creation suite. These sounds may be only seconds long, but can be added to music or recorded beats to produce a compact disc (CD) as an end product.
Students will attend sound production sessions at a local music store to further enhance their creative style in the use of the software.
Each quarter the students will demonstrate their skills by producing a CD and presenting it to an audience of their peers, friends and family. This demonstration will also serve as an audition component for the feeder high school magnets that offer sound engineering academies.
Students will also learn the music production business. How do recorded sounds and mixes go from the studio to the airwaves (radio)? What legal steps should one take to copyright their product? How to I sell my product to the music industry?
Music education has to evolve with the current trends in society.
While traditional music teaching methods will remain, it is important to introduce the latest technology and sound production tools to further INSPIRE student involvement in music making. This project will allow students to expand their music education by engaging in new performance skills and techniques. Perhaps the next new sound will be created in our very own classroom corner studio.
