My Students

How do we get our teenagers to realize that being pregnant is everything, BUT what they think it is going to be?

My students are like other teenagers.

Interested in having fun and in having relationships. They don't think that anything will ever happen to them - until it does. Teen pregnancy affects every community and the future. How can we teach the impact if students cannot experience the effects before it is too late?

My Project

The empathy bellies that I have are very old and have holes in them. My students use these in class and outside class as we discuss pregnancy. Students wear the empathy belly the entire day as they walk around to their classes for the school day. Students receive a sense of the judgement that pregnant teens receive. It is a huge eye opener.

Although the brand of Empathy Bellies that is being offered is not the actual brand I want, I believe enough in the experience and willing to take anything.

The comments from both students who wear the bellies and students who observe their peers wearing the bellies are astounding. Please help me with this.
