Help me give my students curriculum, books, and learning games that support social and emotional learning to help make our school and community a safe and inclusive place to learn.
I am requesting a variety of tools and resources that will help support all students at my school to learn empathy, compassion and students individual responsibility to promote positive change. As the school counselor I work with ALL students in my school. I visit all classrooms at least once per month and work with about 10% of my schools population in a small-group or individual setting. A large emphasis I tie back to all off my lessons is empathy, how does another person feel. When students take into account another persons feelings it can change our responses and interactions to include compassion. I am teaching all students in my school about concepts such as empathy and compassion as I feel it is a foundation in many of the daily issues or problems I encounter at school. Some of these issues include; respect, conflict resolution, bullying, and racial/gender discrimination. I feel with the addition of these tools to use in classrooms for all students and targeted groups I will be able to more effectively suppprt students understanding of others, increase compassion for classmates and their differences & diversity and overall help our school community be a safe and inclusive place for all students to learn. I plan to use pre and post tests before lessons and group to track for increase of understanding and goals to make an impact in their classrooms with their peers and other community members. I would also like to have students submit experiences of empathy and compassion to build a paper chain displayed in the school as a visual representation of these positive changes.
