My Students

My students are a merry mix of all demographics. We welcome diversity in our classroom and celebrate all of the ensuing connections we discover.

These audacious students yearn for challenges that extend beyond the classroom.

They reach for the "reality" factor in their assignments as we connect our studies to the real world.

I am constantly searching for creative ways to allow students this freedom and individuality in their assignments because when the classroom work is relevant to student lives, amazing things happen.

My Project

Current research shows that the best way to develop empathy is to read fiction! This is MUSIC to English teacher's ears. We've known this all along. Please help me get these important, challenging books into my students' hands. These beautiful books help us understand where compassion and empathy begin. These specific books will augment their understanding of how to show compassion to each other, but more importantly, to themselves. Books like this are rare, but vital to a well rounded reading program. This year, more than any other, we NEED compassion and empathy for ourselves and others. These books help make that possible.
