Help me give my students awareness into how we can have empathy for all people. I am also asking for new scissors and glue so that they can make things without the obstacle of poor supplies.

-Jeff Duntemann
I am looking to provide my students with new scissors and glue to provide creative and meaningful learning experiences that won't be bound by poor materials.
While 1st grade can be tricky due to students being at different stages of learning, my students help one another and work together to solve problems. Some can already read, while others are working on letters and sounds. Some can solve math equations, while others are building their number sense through counting. These students are learning that being vulnerable and saying "I don't know", is no longer a bad thing, but the first step to becoming self-aware, intrinsically-motivated, life-long learners!
My Project
Reading aloud empathy focused books, my students will gain an understanding and awareness of how we can all be kind to each other. I teach my students daily the importance of kindness and these books will be a great addition in teaching this message.
My students say 2 pledges each day.
One for our incredible nation, and one for our classroom family. "We are a classroom family. We promise to be trustworthy, truthful, and active listeners too. We will do our personal, and give no put-downs, only put-ups to all of you!"
I'm excited to also add new scissors and Elmer's glue so that my student's creativity and products won't be hindered by poor materials.
