This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We are proud to serve a vibrant and diverse student body with a high population of emergent bilingual learners as well as students with dyslexia. Many of our students face unique challenges as they learn to navigate both their academic studies and new cultural environments. As they work hard to become proficient in English as well as increase their literacy in general, they also need support that extends beyond just academics. Motivating and encouraging these young scholars is essential to ensuring they thrive. It is also crucial that students have manipulatives that will help them thrive in their fluency.
Many of our students face food insecurity, which can be a major barrier to learning.
By offering snacks, we ensure that every student has the energy to focus on their work and participate fully in class. These snacks will be available to students who may not have access to a meal before or during school, giving them the fuel they need to succeed.
The mini boards will be used to help students split words into syllables to make literacy easier for them to access. The books will help them develop reading skills while creating origami projects.
